Brad Avakian: Oregon's Labor Commissioner

I've been attacked by a national hate group

I've been attacked by a national hate group

The far right is on the attack again. In a message sent nationwide, the so-called Family Research Council – identified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center – is calling me “shocking”, “radical”, and “heavy-handed”.

It’s clear that our path in this election is complicated by out-of-state hate groups. Will you stand up for our progressive values? Chip in $8 right now and join me in this in fight.

What is the radical right so upset about? Here’s the deal:

Here in Oregon, our values are clear:everyone is welcome here, and no one can be denied service in a restaurant, hotel, or yes, a bakery, because of the color of their skin, their gender, or who they love.

As a state legislator, I was proud to champion the Oregon Equality Act. And as Labor Commissioner, I've worked to educate businesses about how to do the right thing and when we find evidence of discrimination, ensuring that people's civil rights are protected.

Oregon is at center stage in this fight. If the Family Research Council and their allies can target me in Oregon, they hope they can cow other politicians into submission.

We can’t let that happen. Chip in $8 right now and let’s make sure we can keep up the fight for equality and fairness.

This is Oregon. This is who we are. And we’re not going to back down from standing against hate and discrimination.

Thanks for your help,
